I have since 2001 been working on a series of performance based photographs and video pieces in which I explore situations where the sublime and the mundane intersect. This project has grown from my interest in the everyday hero and the “invisible” workers. Workers is an ongoing project, currently consisting of 22 large-scale colour photographs and five video pieces produced in various countries.

By removing the worker from their usual context and placing them in extraordinary natural landscapes, their mundane tasks appear compulsive yet also absurd. This emphasises the subjects’ strength and dedication while simultaneously exposing the futility and endlessness of their activities. They become outsiders, alone in carrying out their monotonous work; and yet their effort is heroic.

The project also aims to speak of common situations that anyone can recognise and relate to, namely the overwhelming and endless task it is to live a life. Humour and the absurd become important tools in the battle for survival.
